Or call your technical documentation professional directly
Are you looking for a technical editor?
Our technical editors come from different disciplines and have technical background knowledge, e.g. from an engineering degree.
In our training centre we train new employees in all aspects of technical documentation, so they are ready to take on their diverse tasks.
We have plenty of offices, so we are always nearby. That means we can conduct research at short notice if necessary.
Our broad range of information types
It has become increasingly clear to us recently that the methods we have developed for creating the content of technical documentation can also be applied to other types of text. So we now also create training information, text for offers, developer documentation, validation procedures and many other types of text.
In future, traditional printed information will increasingly be replaced by digital information. The major advantage for users is that information can be made more accessible to them via digital methods. Information can be made available via content delivery portals on the web or in an app or shown directly on the product display.
We are currently working on several projects where we will reveal new dimensions of information to our customers. Our expertise covers everything from concept to technical and editorial implementation.
How we at kothes work
The right know-how for your success
Focus on the user
When we create information products we always focus on the user. When developing concepts for technical documentation we always try to find the best possible way to supply users, i.e. your customers, with the information they need to perform the necessary tasks as effectively as possible. As a result, users are satisfied and your market position is strengthened.
Language and structure
Technical documentation represents a special type of text. It must meet our high standards of comprehension, clarity, and consistency. In regard to international marketing, it is also important that texts are suitable for translation, a factor that must be considered while the text is created.
In order to meet these demands, our technical editors use what is referred to as “controlled language” when writing. This is characterised by rules and restrictions on syntax, grammar and style; together with a defined terminology, these rules and guidelines ensure that the content is effective. The same purpose is fulfilled on the formal side by structuring methods that are used to structure the frequently complex content.
The task of finding specific information and recording it quickly can be assisted by, for example, a function design. In addition, content must be structured before it can be created, managed, reused and published by means of an editorial system.
Modularisation and reuse
When creating content we usually use editorial systems or content management systems. They help us to create modular content and reuse it efficiently. We use methods to classify the content with the help of metadata. That makes it easier to find reusable content. Classification is also the basis for the digital distribution of content via content delivery portals, which we use to build digital information portals and mobile information apps for our customers.
Documentation that complies with standards, directives and legal requirements
Technical documentation also provides legal protection. It is necessary to comply with common EU directives, with national legislation, and with national and international standards.
Thanks to the methods we have developed, you are always on the safe side here. We ensure that the user information created for you complies with all required regulations. That includes:
European directives such as:
- Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC
- Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU
- Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU
- Directive on equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX) 2014/34/EU
- Lifts Directive 2014/33/EU
- Medical Devices Directive 93/42/EEC
National legislation such as:
- Product liability law
- Device and product safety law
International standards, such as:
- DIN EN 82079-1 Preparation of Instructions For Use
- DIN EN ISO 12100 Safety of machinery
- DIN EN ISO 17100 Translation Services
- ANSI Z535.6 Product Safety Information in Product Manuals, Instructions, and Other Collateral Materials (USA)
