ZHAW Visits Wallisellen

On St. Nicholas Day, eight students from ZHAW (Zurich University of Applied Sciences) visited kothes Schweiz GmbH in Wallisellen, Switzerland for a practice day. The meeting was initiated by the Lecturer, Dr. Keller, who is also an Advisor to our cooperation partner SCHEMA.

The aim was to give students an insight into the job description of a Technical Editor on-site at a service provider, to shed light on the transition from technical documentation to proactive Smart Information, and to present DOCUFY’s COSIMA go! Content Management System, which had been previously unknown to the students.

Our guests were warmly greeted with chocolate Santas, coffee and cold drinks.

After the introduction to kothes GmbH, we devoted ourselves to the complete technical editorial process from order receipt to delivery. Then, it was time for the topics of quality management, proofreading, and translation management, topped off by practical examples in the COSIMA go! CMS. Previously, the students had worked with the TIM 4.0 and SCHEMA ST4 Content Management Systems and were now able to become familiar with and evaluate a third CMS.

After a well-deserved lunch break, we looked into the future of technical documentation together: augmented reality, voice assistants and chatbots, as well as content delivery portals with integrated knowledge networks.

At the end of the practice day we sat together, had a sort of "reality check" (university vs. everyday work), and exchanged experiences. Our guests took the opportunity to ask questions about working as a Technical Editor at a service provider.

We'd like to thank Dr. Keller, wish the students success on their upcoming exams in January 2020, for their final theses, and we look forward to seeing them again in 2020.
